Challenge

Adapt framing and editing to several formats, from independently produced interviews to round tables recorded with multiple cameras, while maintaining a coherent visual identity and an engaging rhythm throughout long videos.

Solution

Precise and complementary framing across cameras, combined with editing attentive to speakers, reactions and changes of pace to keep discussions clear and engaging for more than one hour.

Process

Shoot preparation, framing and lighting setup, solo filming for the interviews, participation as a camera operator in multicamera round table setups, followed by footage review and editing of several long videos for online publication. REDFOX Studio directed the productions.

Several formats for the festival

For the seventh edition of Les Rencontres du 7ème Art in Lausanne, I worked on individual interviews and discussions filmed with several cameras. I independently handled the technical preparation, filming and editing of four interviews, then participated as a camera operator and editor on other productions. REDFOX Studio directed the productions.

Camera operator for multicamera round tables

I participated in filming several round tables using multicamera setups. My work involved providing complementary shots, following each speaker and the reactions of the other participants, and applying the director’s instructions throughout the recording.

Editing videos lasting more than one hour

I also edited several conversations and round tables lasting more than one hour. The Ruben Östlund conversation shown here illustrates this long form editing work, which requires camera synchronisation, careful selection of each contribution and a fluid rhythm throughout the entire video.

Justin Hurwitz

The composer of La La Land, Whiplash, First Man and Babylon discusses his career and relationship with film music in a bright and deliberately uncluttered composition.

Édouard Bergeon

A combination of close and wider shots follows the director’s gestures and answers while preserving the spontaneity of the conversation.

Ruben Östlund

A wide and balanced composition lets the director and screenwriter develop his answers freely. The edit follows his speaking rhythm and preserves the energy of his gestures.

Angeliki Papoulia

A soft and uncluttered composition places the Greek actress at the centre of the image. The edit supports her answers with simplicity and preserves the intimacy of the conversation.
